Public transportation, such as a high
speed rail route, is the wave of the future in Wisconsin. that's the
message from the Wisconsin Student Public Interest Group or WIS-PIRG.
Forty students joined state and local leaders at the Amtrak depot in La
Crosse Thursday night to build support for the proposed high speed rail
line.
Students say Wisconsin needs an updated transportation
system that will relieve traffic congestion and be kinder to the
environment. "We need a more convenient, more direct and faster way of
traveling without the hassle of getting your car together and paying
for rising gas prices," says Devin Trezise from WISPIRG.
The
students have been traveling the proposed route of the high speed rail
line, stopping in 10 cities from Green Bay, Milwaukee, Madison and La
Crosse.
