APPLETON — A group of 40 college students will arrive gather at Houdini Plaza on Monday to show support for high-speed rail in Wisconsin.
Student members of Wisconsin's Public Interest Research Group will
stop in Appleton at 1 p.m. as part of a 10-city tour of a proposed
train route.
Bruce Speight, an advocate for the research group,
said a rail project would offer people another transportation choice,
and has lower energy costs per passenger than car travel.
Congress allotted $8 billion in recovery funds toward high-speed rail, but projects haven't been determined.
"We have a real opportunity here," Speight said.
The students also will make stops Monday in Green Bay and Oshkosh.
