Many Madison groups celebrated the planet this weekend.
One of the biggest Earth Day events was held on the UW campus, where students made saving the earth a fun, family event.
The First Annual Earth Festival was sponsored by
the Wisconsin Students' Public Interest Resource Group.
A group of UW student activists that organized the event to "remind everybody that we're in this together," UW student Beatrice Hadidian-Baugher said.
Wisconsin's been focusing on saving the planet for almost forty years. Earth Day was founded here in 1970, and now it's a global event.
"You're suppose to help the earth and pick up pollution," Jamie Frankel said.
And, Wisconsinites take their Earth Day tradition personally.
Wwe have been a very active state, but we could do more," Sherrie Gruder said.
That's why during the Earth Festival, attendees are asked to do things like recycle, drive electric cars, buy local and pledge to conserve energy.
