A group of UW
students hope to get the state on board with a high speed rail.
Students in the group WISPIRG are traveling across
Wisconsin to build support for a statewide high speed rail. A high
speed rail has already been approved connecting Milwaukee, Madison and
Chicago, but the group would like to see it expand. The group was in
Eau Claire Monday morning to talk about the benefits of having a high
speed rail and the impact it can have on a community.
"It's a good investment for Wisconsin, if we don't
build now, we never will, we have to seize the opportunity," says Sarah
Seibold, WISPIRG Student Leader. "If you look farther into the future
with population growth, it's the right option for Wisconsin. We need
many options for people and they just can't be expanding upon the use of
cars."
There are talks to expand the current line project
to the twin cities with the route either going through La Crosse or Eau
Claire. Eau Claire was the first stop of seven WISPIRG plans to make
in the next few days.
