3 great ways to get involved...

Intern for course credit... Fill out our interest form under the involvement tab or contact Jenna Ormson at ormson@wisc.edu to find out more about our internship program and how you can get involved this semester or next semester.

Come to one of our upcoming events and volunteer or take action by signing a petition or taking a photo.  See upcoming events above.

Stop by one of our meetings...

  • Core meetings 7-8pm, Mondays, Red Gym, On Wisconsin Room: These meetings are where the leaders, interns, volunteers and anyone interested in WISPIRG come to talk about the chapter priority for the week, plan future events, make decisions about campaigns, and give updates on the status of the chapter. It’s a great way to add your input, hear from speakers, receive trainings, and get involved in a bunch of our different campaigns if you can’t quite decide!

  • WISPIRG Intern Class 5-6pm Mondays Humanities 1111, or 6-7pm Tuesdays in Humanities 1101:  Come learn the skills you need to make in impact on the issues you care about. Interns, volunteers, student leaders from campus groups, and anyone looking to improve their activist skills are all welcome. Check out the intern blog post to see this week's topic or contact Samantha Gibb, WISPIRG's Campus Organizer for more information: samantha@wispirgstudents.org

  • 21st Century Transit Campaign, 7pm Wednesdays, TBD: Our transit campaign is working to make sure that we pass a referendum to get Regional Transportation Authorities (RTAs) set up in our local cities in Wisconsin so that we have a designated funding source to help improve our transit systems. We are going to build up a list of 10,000 student, citizen, business owners, and VIP supporters this semester so that when the time comes to vote, we’ll be ready to mobilize! Check out our blog, and follow us on Twitter

  • Big Red Go Green, Global Warming Solutions campaign, Tuesdays 8PM, TBD: The American Clean Energy and Securities Act - the first nationwide cap to global warming pollution - needs to pass the senate this fall.  Help us stand up to big oil and dirty coal and make it happen. We also want to help UW Madison to be a leader in clean energy by hosting the 4th annual Residence Hall Energy Competition and proposing research on energy efficiency projects to university administrators. Check out our blog and follow us on Twitter!

  • Conservation and Recycling Efforts (CARE) campaign, Tuesdays 7:30pm, Humanities: There is too much waste produced in America. CARE works to educate students and citizens and ask administrators and politicians to enforce rules and regulations to conserve precious resources such as water and land so we can reduce the amount of waste produced daily.

  • Hunger an Homelessness campaign, Tuesday 7:30PM, TBD: Poverty is a huge problem not only in Madison but around the world.  Millions go to sleep each night without a roof over their heads or enough meals to keep them healthy.  H&H helps to solve poverty through service, education, and legislation. Resolve to fight poverty!

  • Fair Trade, 7-8PM, Wednesday, 6:30 pm, office: When we buy products we usually do not know anything about how they were made. Fair Trade Certification gives us the confidence that the person who made it was given a fair wage and worked under humane conditions. WISPIRG’s Fair Trade campaign works to increase citizen awareness and access to fair trade products in our community.

  • Affordable Healthcare Project: Reforming healthcare is the President’s top priority, but he needs our help. We need to make sure our elected officials know that UW Madison students want affordable healthcare and a public option! Contact Katherine Omernick, komernick@wisc.edu

  • Affordable Textbooks Project: Paying for expensive textbooks is a cost that actually prevents some students from even getting a college education. There are other options like buying used books, rental programs, and using open source materials. We educate students and professors about these options. Contact Shimeng Mai: smai@wisc.edu
